JOB SUMMARY:

Senior Safeguarding Investigator is responsible for independently conducting Safeguarding investigations under minimal supervision. The Senior Safeguarding Investigator gathers, analyses and evaluates facts, defines problems, draws valid conclusions and prepares and presents concise written reports. The Senior Safeguarding Investigator promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps' and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values to staff and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values.

Description

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ethics and Compliance Department Overarching Responsibilities

  • Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
  • Prepares and provides necessary updates on internal investigations to Safeguarding Case Manager and Case Team.
  • Ensures that IMC's Safeguarding investigations protocol and practice is in line with current good practice and internationally recognized standards and guidelines
  • Encourage transparency, communication, and teamwork related to the Ethics and Compliance Charter and its Department objectives


Investigations

  • As directed by the Safeguarding Case Team, independently conducts objective, fair, thorough, unbiased and timely investigations into allegations of SEA and Safeguarding violations
  • Develops action plans which determine scope, timing & direction of investigation
  • Ensures field visits/communication/interviews to obtain relevant evidence and information
  • Reviews evidence to draw conclusions
  • Documents all investigative steps
  • Produces investigation reports with recommendations
  • Identifies interdepartmental referral pathways and recommended actions

Capacity building and training

  • Researches available sources and remains up-to-date on relevant trends and activities in Safeguarding within the NGO community.
  • Provides guidance and training to junior investigative staff
  • As requested, assists in the development of relevant training and capacity building to IMC staff and partners

Education
Bachelors Degree

  • Typically, a Bachelor´s Degree in related area. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Certification in SEA/Protection investigation

More Details on Experience

  • Typically, Minimum 8 of progressive relevant experience in related field, with at least 6 years' experience in humanitarian relief
  • Experience in effectively leading and completing safeguarding investigations in challenging environments
  • Proven ability to gather, analyses and evaluate facts, define problems, draw valid conclusions and to prepare and present concise written reports in English
  • Experience coordinating investigations conducted by other staff
  • Ability to effectively train staff
  • Ability to establish and retain effective working relationships with other staff and to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to lead and coordinate other staff
  • Ability and willingness to travel to International Medical Corps' program locations as needed, up to 3 months a year
