We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to support a research project focused on strengthening the operations and governance of selected associations in Kenya. The study aims to document the associations’ structures, membership, activities, objectives, and operational challenges, and to identify opportunities for improving their effectiveness, public engagement, and accountability mechanisms.
The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Research Associate throughout the 6-month engagement.
Description
- Conduct field and desk-based research on selected associations and their membership.
- Develop a detailed inventory of members, committees, and structures of the selected associations.
- Carry out interviews and key informant discussions with leaders, members, and stakeholders linked to the associations.
- Collect data on governance, operations, programs, membership dynamics, objectives, and challenges.
- Assist in designing and refining research tools such as questionnaires and interview guides.
- Manage and organize data, including transcription, coding, cleaning, and preliminary analysis.
- Prepare summaries, briefs, and draft contributions to research reports.
- Coordinate appointments, communication, and fieldwork logistics with association officials.
- Provide weekly progress updates to the Research Associate and Principal Investigator.
- Perform any other research-related tasks as assigned.
Education
- Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Business Administration, Economics, Governance, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (as a foundation).

- Demonstrated experience in research, data collection, stakeholder interviews, or field surveys.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of data analysis tools is an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
