Summary

Our client Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency is looking for a project manager who will be reporting to the CEO.

Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency is a Child Development and sponsorship organization whose mission is to help deprived, excluded and vulnerable children have the capacity to improve their lives and the opportunity to become young adults, parents and leaders who bring lasting and positive change in their communities. To realize this, Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency implements programs in five key thematic areas including Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Child Protection and Gender Advocacy, Food Security and Livelihoods, Education and health and Nutrition. Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency together with 6 other organizations is implementing Pamoja grant in Kenya and Ethiopia. The partners, along with local stakeholders, will learn about citizen-led, child-focused climate resilient development approaches and develop programs that address climate as it affects children.

Purpose of the Position 

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the CEO, the Projects Manager will be responsible for planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency activities and resource mobilization. The manager will also facilitate vibrant engagement with the community, civil society, the government, and the private sector in promoting the citizen-led, child-focused climate-resilient development approaches and related aspects in Kenya. S/he will also support the coordination and lesson sharing among EDCA Teams and key partners in the respective projects. The holder will support in driving resource mobilization to further the overall objectives of EDCA.

Description

Major Responsibilities:

Grant and project Management 60%

  • Take the lead to ensure that the projects and associated projects’ objectives and activities are achieved in a timely, cost-efficient, and effective manner and where applicable in collaboration partners including providing technical inputs and management support to the ongoing project and other activities including research, organizing and facilitating meetings, preparing technical documents and managing the projects on a day-to-day basis.
  • Be responsible for the planning and implementation of relevant training as well as follow-up and mentoring of training participants in close cooperation with other partners. 
  • Coordinate implementation of the projects, including through oversight of resources and activities.
  • Provide capacity building to staff at the field level, which includes introduction and linkages to new technologies, field demonstrations, and sites visits, and sharing of standard methodologies.
  • Budget holder for Pamoja Grant.
  • Enhance effective communication at all levels with Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency, donors, and other departments.
  • Follow up on project activities implemented under partner agreements, consultancies, or similar arrangements, and ensure their timely and quality delivery.
  • Prepare and submit quality and timely work plans, budgets, and technical progress reports to EDCA, Donors, and other partners as applicable.
  • Communicate important developments in project implementation and management to participating organizations on a regular basis.
  • Develop cross-learning and exchange with other implementing partners in Kenya, the region, and internationally as needed. 
  • Ensure that projects information and database repository are kept up to date, provide activity briefs and information for communication and reporting
  • Work closely with the CEO to ensure the successful delivery of all grants.
  • Participate in relevant inter-agency groups and contribute to related documents and discussions; including but not limited to WASH cluster, County Steering Group Meetings, Food Security Sector, Resilience, and Climate Change Strategy meetings etc.
  • Act as the project manager for the Pamoja Project.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Resource Mobilization 40%

  • To take the lead role in identifying funding opportunities, listing them, and sharing the information with the CEO.
  • Take the lead in funding proposal writing processes. This involves writing project and budget plan proposals in coordination with the Finance department.
  • Spearheading Fundraising and resource mobilization initiatives. 
  • To assist in developing a resource mobilization strategy and plan and constantly follow up on the implementation of the plan. This involves designing and writing materials for communications with different prospective donors and agencies.
  • To assist in mobilizing financial and non-financial resources from private sector entities, individuals, and corporate agencies.
  • Carry out other activities and duties as required to support Emali Dedicated Children’s Agency objectives. 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, Agribusiness, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Development Studies, Project Management, Environmental, and Natural Resource Management, or other related fields.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with additional relevant educational qualification.

More Details on Experience

  • 5 years minimum Experience in similar responsibilities in project management and partner engagement and networking.
  • At least 5 years experience in grant management, Resource mobilization, or business development.
  • Sound knowledge of and skills in project cycle management, needs assessment, project planning, and proposal writing, including extensive experience in grant management; strong MEAL experience.
  • Experience in implementing community mobilization, broad-based awareness raising, advocacy, lobbying, and capacity building (e.g training, workshop facilitation, and capacity building) is preferable.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills: the ability to organize and present information, views, and concepts in a concise, understandable, and interesting way for a variety of audiences, both written and oral.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive; able to come up with initiatives or undertake actions with minimal supervision, yet an excellent team player.
  • Outstanding personal attitude: especially a sense of responsibility, ownership, diplomacy, and, concern for quality.
  • Outstanding personal values: integrity, commitment, respect for diversity, patience, and excellent interpersonal skills. Solid understanding of and expertise in community engagement processes and links to local governance, civil society engagement, private sector engagement, and policy advocacy.

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills are desirable.
  • A proven ability to work independently as well as in teams is desired. 
  • Experience in environmental and natural resource management is an added advantage. 
  • Excellent partnership, relationship management, and diplomatic skills. 
  • Strong planning and analytical skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong capacity to work independently.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team. 
  • Good command of English and Kiswahili both written and spoken
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, and high-pressure situations.
