The incumbent serves as an investigator working with American federal agents at the U.S. Embassy, assisting in complex and sensitive investigations. These investigations include but are not limited to visa/passport fraud; citizen, immigration, and other travel document fraud; human trafficking; human smuggling; and crimes of joint interest to the United States and the Republic of Kenya.

The investigator is expected to help reduce the manufacture, sale, distribution, trafficking, and counterfeiting of U.S. and foreign identity documents used by transnational criminal or terrorist organizations.

The incumbent develops and maintains liaison relationships with host government agencies, including local Police, Administration Police, Kenya Wildlife Service, Diplomatic Police Unit, Airport Personnel, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and other Government of Kenya entities.

Additional investigations may involve procurement/financial irregularities, employee malfeasance/misfeasance, and American Citizen Services (ACS) concerns.

The incumbent supports VIP and U.S. delegation visits and assists other U.S. Embassy and U.S. Government offices as directed by the Overseas Criminal Investigator. The position requires 24/7 availability.

• Officer-ranked Inspector of Police and below.
• Minimum three years’ investigative and prosecutorial experience with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
• Valid driver’s license (minimum three years) and ability to pass a manual-vehicle driving evaluation.

• Understanding of Kenyan law relating to document fraud, alien smuggling, and human smuggling.
• Knowledge of Kenyan government documentation, procedures, criminal law, evidence law, and related legal areas.
• Knowledge of security procedures including surveillance, guard duties, and VIP protection.
• Ability to write investigative reports and translate documents between Kiswahili and English.
• Ability to conduct suspect interviews.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to pass a computer skills exam.
