Summary
The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal services and related matters and ensuring scheme compliance with relevant legislation and offering Board secretariat services.
Description
- Review the progress of litigation to ensure effective representation of the Scheme;
- Represent the scheme in all disputes including arbitration or litigation in the Court;
- Supervision of review of progress of ongoing litigation and arbitrations/mediations to ensure proper case management;
- Conduct legal research and participate in vetting and drawing contracts, lease, loans agreement and other legal documents;
- Maintain records of contracts, leases, loan agreements and the covenants therein;
- Provide timely information on renewals or termination of agreements;
- Draw up contracts, lease documents, loan agreements and other legal documents;
- Provision of Board secretariat services to the Board of Trustees;
- Participate in liaison with external lawyers on legal matters for the Scheme;
- Gather information and evidence on cases and compiling the cases as required;
- Ensure proper documentation by participating in maintenance and filing all court proceedings as per established systems;
- Prepare legal documents as required and participate in handling insurance matters as and when required;
- Attend to Annual General Meeting as and when required;
- Prepare legal reports and opinion on matters involving the Scheme and presenting to the Scheme Administrator;
- Draft and review legal documents and contracts;
- Maintain legal office records, filing correspondences and update files current status online and opening new file cases;
- Official search, filing and registration of documents;
- Assist the Scheme Administrator in Secretarial duties during Board of Trustee meetings;
- Process advocate’s fee vouchers and requisitioning of payments.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized institution;
A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Kenya School of Law;
Member of Law Society of Kenya with a current practicing certificate
