Summary

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the role is focused on driving excellence in milling operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving targeted milling efficiencies and ensuring the quality of final products aligns with the company's product quality leadership objectives. Additionally, they will ensure customer requirements and expectations are met consistently.

Description

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND KEY RESULTS:

  Production Planning

  • Participate and chair production planning meetings
  • Ensure timely execution and adherence to production plans & schedules
  • Operate & Control – Key activities (Specialty, Packing, Milling) performed supported by polices and processes that gives effectiveness & efficiency of business operations.
  • Increase product availability by reviewing and replenishing the FG Kanban
  • Ensure timely posting of bulk flour in SAP by the production team as per SLA with key stake holders
  • Create BOM & recipe for in process materials. Update cost for in process materials
  • Ensure timely calculation of overheads and process order settlement
  • Investigate cause for inventory variances and production variance and take immediate corrective action
  • Build relations with the sales team for prompt communication on sales order.
  • Provide technical support to sales team in new product development, testing, launching and offer the necessary support

Implement Food Safety objectives

  • Participate in product development and establish operational standards in tandem with customer requirements
  • Enhance customer experience through production of conforming products
  • Maintain GMPs above 90%
  • Ensure compliance to legal/regulatory requirements
  • Implement Quality Plan and other food safety programs. 

Grain Cleaning Process

  • Ensure operational excellence by maintaining equipment efficiencies. Make the necessary equipment adjustment to achieve optimal separation of foreign materials in the screenroom.
  • Ensure optimal water addition and lying time for wheat. Review water additions parameters based on the type of wheat/grist
  • Ensure proper handling and mixing of screenings into by-product. Monitor the grinding process for screenings for proper power management

Optimize Grain Conversion

  • Maintain set extraction rates and other milling efficiencies. Ensure proper roll settings including break releases
  • Participate and guide in purchasing the right quality of wheat and grist to maximize costs and quality of products
  • Monitor milling cost and optimize wheat grist. Ensure effective cost control and drive towards competitive unit cost and accountable for cost such as energy, maintenance and other Losses
  • Investigate process losses and take prompt corrective actions
  • Ensure adherence to Product Specifications

Pest Management

  • Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper hygiene levels
  • Ensure proper Sanitation of equipment through the deep cleaning process and support fumigation plans
  • Conduct equipment and process inspection for traces of infestation
  • Ensure AM and PM support in regard to equipment maintenance-Improve access to hidden areas

Maintenance Programs

  • Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper working integrity of the milling equipment
  • Ensure the mills are properly and efficiently maintained through developing and executing maintenance plans
  • Conduct routine equipment inspection
  • Conduct Condition Based Maintenance activities
  • Ensure support for Planned Maintenance; Roll change, sifter maintenance, and servicing drives.
  • Maintain the process flow as per mill design from the available flow charts
  • Maintain the working integrity of MCC and PLC. Enhance employee training on PLC
  • Maintain the working integrity of process scales
  • Ensure Interlock system for the process is working with no bypass
  • Participate in the process design to improve material flow
  • Use available manuals for interpretation of errors

Continual Improvement Initiatives

  • Guide the Millers on emerging new technology in milling for adoption
  • Participate in the equipment and process design. Identify key resource requirements for projects by raising BOQs and ROI
  • Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu
  • Identify process challenges & use PDCA to address bottlenecks
  • Coordinate all continual improvement projects for the function
  • Enhance employee competences through trainings. Enhance technical excellence of the milling team
  • Conduct HK Reviews for reportees by reviewing strategies against performance. Participate in the monthly HK Reviews with the Plant Manager
  • Appropriate identification and management of risks and controls in the production process
  • Support activities around company's culture code – FIRST.
  • Participate in organizing site events and initiatives as guided.
  • Enhance employee safety through trainings
  • Ensure adherence and compliance to safety requirements

Leadership & Accountability       

  • Conduct appraisals for employees and develop training plan. Regularly review Personal Development Plan for staff and support employees to improve their performance
  • Improve on process accountability through F2F discussions
  • Regularly coach and mentor employees
  • Ensure effective communication among the team members through team building
  • Ensure Process ownership
  • Conflict resolution. Ensure issues brought forward are resolved and escalated on time

Process documentation and Reporting

  • Document and maintain all process records
  • Review all process records and reports. Ensure production reports are generated on time, Mill backup report, screen room reports…
  • Ensure all reports are shared with key parties and that are error free
  • Participate in the stocktake process and take corrective actions against variances including closing of production batches

Workplace Safety

  • Implement Workplace Safety Policy and procedures
  • Coordinate with the SHEQ Team and Plant Management to implement safety programs
  • Coordinate activities & functions for the Sub-pillars
  • Promote workplace safety through regular plant inspection
  • Take corrective action against non-compliance related to safety
  • Ensure proper equipment and process design that promotes safety
  • Identify key resources needed to enhance employee safety
  • Safeguard and protect equipment designed to enhance employee safety
  • Use problem solving technic to solve chronic issues related to safety

Education

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or its equivalent.
  • Bsc Food Science, Technology and Nutrition.
  • Diploma / Advanced Certificate in Milling Technology.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the Grain Milling Industry
