Job Purpose
The Building and General Maintenance Manager will provide strategic and technical leadership for all building infrastructure, structural integrity, and maintenance operations across the facility, oversee all building and maintenance operations, ensure all assets are structurally sound, compliant, cost-efficient, and aligned to expansion plans, while embedding engineering rigor, safety, and operational excellence.

Specific Objectives, Duties and Responsibilities
Structural Engineering & Asset Integrity
- Lead structural assessments, inspections, and certifications for all buildings, plant structures, and civil works.
- Design, review, and approve structural modifications, upgrades, and new construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with Kenyan building codes, engineering standards, and safety regulations.
- Conduct risk-based structural audits and develop mitigation strategies for aging or high-risk infrastructure.
- Oversee structural load analysis, foundation integrity, and material performance in industrial environment.
Project & Construction Management
- Lead capital projects, including expansions, refurbishments, and infrastructure upgrades, prepare and manage project plans, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Ensure all construction activities meet engineering specifications, safety standards, and cost targets.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to improve future delivery.
- Select and manage competent external contractors for specialized maintenance and construction projects, ensuring legal and statutory compliance, and adherence to company policies.
- Negotiate contracts and ensure timely completion of projects to the required standards.
Budget & Cost Optimization:
- Prepare and manage capex, opex and maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Source and procure quality and cost-effective materials, tools, and equipment required for maintenance activities and maintain proper inventory records.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply NEMA, County Government, OSHA, engineering regulatory bodies, and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to mitigate risks and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the lifecycle of assets.
- Lead safety audits and enforce zero-harm culture within maintenance and construction activities.
- Maintain all statutory documentation, certifications, and approvals.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead and coordinate the activities of maintenance teams, ensuring efficient and effective execution of projects and maintenance activities.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development for team members, enforcing a high-performance culture.
- Manage manpower budget through proper planning and maximization team abilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s Degree is an added advantage).
- Registered Engineer (e.g., EBK – Engineers Board of Kenya).
More Details on Experience
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in building, construction, or industrial maintenance.
- At least 5 years in senior management/leadership role within a manufacturing or large-scale infrastructure environment.
- Proven experience in:
