The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Audio-Visual Technician.
Description
- Incumbent serves as the main authority in the specialized areas of audio-visual and multimedia technology for ICASS Subscribers of US Embassy Nairobi.
- The Audio Visual and Multimedia Technician will set up, operate, and maintain equipment used to support mobile computing and multimedia events such as digital video conferences (DVCs), town halls, VIP visit streams, and presentations. Mobile computing equipment will include, but not be limited to, mobile phones, tablets and laptops and multimedia equipment will include, but not be limited to, cameras, microphones, video recorders, projectors, Smart Boards, lighting, and sound mixing equipment.
- The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the installation of equipment and training of personnel in its use.
- He / She is also responsible for all connections of the audio visual and multimedia equipment to communications networks such as dedicated Internet Networks (DINs), the OpenNet networks.
- Other responsibilities include administering and monitoring the Haivision TV multicast system as well as official cable/satellite TV systems, satellite installations and video displays across the Mission and official residences.
Education
- University degree is required in Network/Computer Engineering, or Information Systems/Management, or Audiovisual Communications/Technology, or Computer Science/Software Engineering, or Communications Engineering is required
LANGUAGE: Level IV English (Fluent, Writing/Reading/Speaking) is required. (This may be tested) and Level IV Swahili (Fluent, Writing/ Reading/ Speaking) is required.
More Details on Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in digital videoconferencing technology, audio/video, public address systems and multimedia discipline is required.

- Must be able to analyze and resolve complex technical problems related to digital videoconferencing technology, audio/video, public address systems and multimedia equipment.
- Must be able to communicate orally and convey technical information to experts and lay people and train and direct others in the operation of Digital Video Conferencing, Audio/Video, Public Address Systems and Multimedia equipment.
- Must have strong understanding of math including conversion of numerical systems and decibel levels.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
