Job Description:

Responsible for setting strategic direction and leading Amal Real Estate and Construction, the General Manager position is also required to oversee all business operations across the company to ensure efficient and effective acquisition, development, investment, financing, marketing and operating of commercial and residential projects and properties.

Description

  • Contribute to the formulation of company strategy and ensure the effective translation of the overall strategic direction into actionable business plans and planned initiatives
  • Manage all activities between stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to deliver projects within scheduled timeframes and budgets
  • Oversee business operations across the company to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources
  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures inline with company regulations and service standards.
  • Review and evaluate project proposals while also overseeing planning and budgeting process for all new projects
  • Develop investment strategy and promote business ideas to create innovative and strategic opportunities
  • Quantify and diversify existing portfolio to improve yield and promote stronger return on assets
  • Make strategic and tactical decisions for optimizing limited resources and leverage funding to meet project and stakeholder objectives
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of annual reports, strategic plan, capital and operating budgets
  • Ensure appropriate risk mitigation measures are in place to control risks and ensure desired results
  • Undertake cross-business collaboration at the onset and throughout the duration of the projects, liaising with Amal Bank and Amal Trade
  • Oversee and monitor the progress of projects including schedules, budgets, and financial and strategic performance metrics
  • Review and approve progress payments or funding disbursements and authorize adjustments to contracts where required
  • Stay current with construction costs, market conditions, project management techniques and real estate development process
  • Act as a key representative and spokesperson for the company in business forums and public meetings, positioning the company’s image as a good corporate entity

Education

  • A bachelors degree in civil engineering or equivalent
  • A master’s degree in business administration or equivalent, supplemented by diploma and training in project management

More Details on Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in senior position in the real estate industry or construction industry completing a number of successful projects on time and within budget
  • Ability to conduct market analysis, development feasibility analysis, as well as proforma and costing analysis
  • Ability to understand geo-technical issues, building designs, construction specifications, cost estimates, development schedules and management plans
  • A creative problem-solver with foresight and integrity who is also skilled at contract negotiations, managing consultants and the development process
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of project management principles, including project scoping, budget development/financial management, scheduling, tendering, quality assurance, risk management and project team coordination
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of real estate property development and construction, and related business concepts, processes and practices
  • Fluent in Somali and English
